SWIMMING GALA 2007
Lewisham Manor District Swimming Gala 2007 Saturday 24th February Ladywell Leisure Centre
45 Scouts from 8 Troops spread across the District entered for the 2007 District Swimming Gala. There were 28 races including fun races for non-swimmers and a four length relay. Every Scout got a least two races which, except the fun race, were one length of Ladywell pool (33m). There was a lot of quality swimming and some very close races. Even those who weren't the fastest swimmers tried extremely hard and everyone got a well earned certificate of participation. We'd also like to thank everyone who took part; those that weren't the strongest swimmers or didn't win a heat tried extremely hard and we didn't have any complaints or unsporting behaviour; all were a credit to their troops. There are lots of photos we haven't added to the website, but if you would like to request any of a particular Scout or Troop please email gala@20thlewishamsouth.co.uk. All the Scouts and Leaders seemed to enjoy themselves but we couldn't have run it without a team of helpers. This included leaders (and their families), parents and Explorers who were lane judges, a race starter with the Explorers keeping the races moving, selling raffle tickets, programmes and popcorn. The fundraising made Ł80.00 which went a long way to offset the cost of pool hire & medals so we owe the parents who stayed. A big thanks for that and for creating a wonderful atmosphere by generating lot of noise cheering. Here are some of the comments from the leaders that attended: "I just wanted to say that I thought the gala went really well and I know my scouts enjoyed themselves." "Well it's been 10 years in coming, Lewisham Swimming galas are back." " It was a well-run event and I believe all the swimmers that took part enjoyed it which is the main achievement. I am already looking forward to the next one - and I don't often say that these days!!" "It was fantastic and our Scouts really enjoyed it." "Just a quick e-mail to say thank you very much for organising and managing tonight's District Gala. The good news - it was a resounding success. The bad news - looks like you'll be nominated the organisers of choice for next year. Our troop really had a fantastic evening thanks in no small part to all of your hard work, supported by a cast of extras on the evening."
