Scouts is all about adventure, and the biggest adventure in Scouts is gaining independence and confidence through their time in the section. We focus more on outdoor activities and teamwork, preparing Scouts to take on more responsibility and greater challenges as they grow up.
We've just got back from an amazing week in the Lake District, where we went sailing, canoeing, climbing and crate stacking, as well as spending plenty of time sitting round the fire and exploring the 250 acre campsite! Our oldest Scouts are now planning a camp without adults, having shown how responsible they can be.
This term we will be working on the Model Maker badge by visiting Game Store in Bromley, learning about First Aid and what to do in an emergency, going to laser tag, and of course heading off on some camps!
We also have a Scout travelling to the World Scout Jamboree in America in summer 2019 - he is very excited! However, this is just one of the exciting opportunities available to Scouts outside of our Group. Scouting is a worldwide family and Scouts are supported and encouraged to join trips and expeditions across the globe.
Last year the Scouts achieved their Athletics, Global Issues and Fire Safety Activity badges. To achieve these, we held a mini-Olympics, discussed clothing production and the rights of children around the world, designed haute couture toilet paper outfits, thought about what items were the most vital to survival following a natural disaster and learnt about water consumption and conservation. For their Fire Safety badges, the Scouts learnt how to light candles and sparklers safely. They lit a fire and cooked marshmallows over it, and had a fire drill.
